Just do it (yourself)
For me personally, I used to do these household repairs (popularly known as jugaad in India) since I was a kid. And most importantly, without any internet reference. To be honest, all of those had a 95% failure rate. Most of my highly ambitious projects made their way to the dustbin. But obviously, it did not discourage me, as I still do DIY projects.
Alright, so basically let me clear all the chaos that is in your mind when you hear this subject. Lots of tools, fancy materials, super time consuming, high rate of failure, are the huge dense clouds spinning around your mind, when it comes to actually doing DIY. Lets make this whole thing crystal clear. DIY is basically the method of building, modifying, or repairing things, by yourself, without the help of any professionals.
Now, if you have done these things in the past, or still do it, you know how it feels when you succeed and also when you fail. But if have never done any such things before, but somewhere deep inside your heart, you still want to do it? well, the best tip that I can provide for you, is that, find a simple problem, that you face around you, and try to fix it, with the basic materials around you, instead of just creating something from scratch by coping it from YouTube (because if you fail, it will just discourage you). For example, make a zip chain puller, form an electrical wire, or similar material. Get the idea?
